Lee Jong Suk is an amazing actor with incredible visuals, but there is more to his story that many people might not know.
Lee Jong Suk stepped into the industry back in 2005 when he got noticed for his looks as a teenager and later walked during the Seoul Fashion Week 2005.
Being only 16 at that time made him the youngest person to walk the runway that year!
Before Lee Jong Suk started his acting, he actually trained to be a Kpop idol!
He was signed under SM Entertainment and was supposed to debut in a group called Real as a rapper.
He left the company because the company did not let him act. At least his trainee time brought him friends like SNSD’s Yoona and Hyeoyeon.
A funny coincidence is that he reunited with Yoona in the show Big Mouth!
From the year 2010, we can see Lee Jong Suk on our screens.
But his true breakout role was the role of Go Nam Soon in the drama School 2013.
That role brought him the recognition of netizens as he ended fifth in the survey done by Gallup Korea called “Actors Who Lit Up 2013”, and on top of that, he won the Best New Actor award at the KBS Drama Awards in 2013.
True stardom came with the role of Park Hoon in the drama Doctor Stranger, and ever since that he is the beloved face of many Kdrama fans.
Jong Suk revealed that it was the role of Park Hoon that gave him the most doubts.
It was the inability to get into the feelings of the character that resulted in many takes that stressed Jong Suk out.
Jong Suk’s level of fame has some sad irony to it, as his biggest fear is the attention of people.
He has been suffering from his shyness since his school years, and he says that it also ruined his relationship with his father, as his father became more strict towards him due to his quietness.
But as an up-and-coming actor, he needed to overcome most of his shyness.
He tried many things, like hosting Inkigayo to get out of his shell, but nothing helped.
His shyness developed further into scopophobia, which is the fear of being the center of attention.
Jong Suk suffers the most during stressful and important events, as then his face turns red and starts sweating excessively.
However, as long as he is in front of the camera, nothing else matters to him.
Jong Suk’s shyness was the reason he got into his first ever scandal when at an airport in 2014 a fan approached him to hand him a gift.
He quickly stepped away and his manager pushed her away, resulting in Jong Suk looking rude and being called someone with “star disease”.
Stepping away from people is natural for him, but lately, he has been trying his best to meet new people without the fear holding him back.
Other than fighting his shyness, his goal is to get married and be the best husband for his future partner.
He revealed in an interview that he signed up for “groom classes”, where he will be taught how to cook or give massages to his significant other.
Lee Jong Suk continued to explore his love for other things than acting in his free time and opened an 89mansion café in 2017.
He voiced out his love for coffee and chose it over alcohol many times.
Sadly, his café was shut down in 2020 due to a pandemic.
