Most of his problematic behavior took place when he was in his twenties.

Back then, he was at the beginning of his acting career, yet his actions had no major consequences.

For starters, he was charged with driving under the influence twice.

The first time was in 1999 when he was caught with a blood alcohol concentration of 0,222% after he collided with the car of a 23 year old woman.

Jung Jae denied the allegations by saying his manager was the one driving.

The next incident happened 3 years later. He admitted to having drunk a few beers before driving to the police after they registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0,054%.

Jung Jae has also been arrested for assault twice.

The first time was in November of 1999 when he went out drinking with friends.

Things got out of hand and he ended up physically and verbally abusing two of the people present.

Then, on September 26th 2000, he once got violent.

This time around he physically assaulted a 25 year old woman outside of a nightclub.

Both times Jung Jae managed to leave the police stations without detention.

A more recent controversy surrounding the actor is that he made a homophobic remark and played a part in outing his late friend Woo Jong Wan.

In an interview with Vogue he said, “A while ago, I had to let a loving friend go to the Heavens. I remember telling Y, ‘Stop being gay. Hasn’t it been enough?’ but it wasn’t easy stopping him.”

Vogue Korea described Mr. Y as Woo Jong Wan in their description, which was problematic because he wasn’t out to his friends and family.

While fans were worried that these incidents might affect his career now, it seems unlikely.

Recently he won an Emmy award for his role in Squid Game which means his career is definitely not over.
