To perfectly capture all the outstanding performances in Alchemy Of Souls, a lot has to happen on set.
On August 1st, tvN posted a video with behind-the-scenes footage from episode 14.
The long-awaited passionate kiss between Mudeok and Jank-uk, performed by lead actors Jung So Min and Lee Jae Wook, was shown in this episode.
To perfect their scene, the actors really put in some great effort.
The two actors had to have their first actual kiss, so it was only natural that they had to get comfortable with one another.
Although they have both appeared in enough romance dramas to be skilled enough to pull off a kissing scene, they begin their preparation by discussing ideas for the kiss with the director.
Then, they start arranging their body language and make sure they are in the correct position.
When it is finally time to lean in for a kiss, they end up not touching lips, which makes the entire crew chuckle.
They then show everyone the real deal and the chemistry is off the charts.
Even though So Min and Jae Wook’s chemistry is great, So Min was not the original actress for the role of Mudeok.
Originally, the role of the female lead was given to a rookie actress.
Park Hye-eun, the star who played in Netflix’s The School Nurse Files was supposed to play her.
However, she revealed the expectations were too high and that it was too early on in her career for her to take on such a huge role.
Eventually, So Min was casted and it definitely was not a bad choice!
Speaking of chemistry, the cast seems to be great friends off-screen.
Lucky for us, the male stars of the drama gave us a glimpse of their great friendship in an interview and pictorial with 1st Look Magazine.
They revealed that the strong friendship they created only strengthens their performances on screen.
They say that joking around with each other on set fuels them when they dread the filming.
Their closeness in age and the fact that they have a lot in common is what made them such good friends in the first place.
Jae Wook even gave Yoo In Soo and Minhyun matching phone cases that he had made himself to really solidify their friendship.
Cracking jokes with each other is actually pretty common on the set of Alchemy Of Souls.
In a special making video of episode 9 and 10 dropped by tvN, it is seen that even when filming circumstances are not ideal, the cast knows how to set the mood.
Hwang Minhyun demonstrates to the audience that ideal weather is not always necessary for shooting.
On a particularly windy day, the actor is getting ready to shoot an action scene.
The star, who is covered under a blanket, says that with the heated pants he got for the crew he can face anything.
In the behind the scenes footage it is seen that the cast has to prepare a celebration scene, but naturally they can not keep a straight face.
Another funny moment on set worth mentioning is the filming interruption caused by a barking dog.
So-min and actor Jae Wook come together for a serious scene in the evening.
Out of nowhere, a dog starts barking quite loudly as the actors struggle to maintain serious expressions for the duration of the scene.
Eventually, Jae Wook can not keep it together anymore and starts smiling.
Behind The Scenes footage of Kim Hyun Sook’s special appearance in the show proved that the cast can make anyone feel more than welcome.
She is close with director Park Joon Hwa and in the video she says that her time on set was extremely fun and that it was very nice to see him again.
Hyun Sook also jokingly says:
“I thought it was a special appearance, but I have about thirty scenes!”
The behind the scenes footage shows us that the case of Alchemy Of Souls knows how to have a good time, even if it is at work!
