While “Squid Game” might have been the reason for his rise to stardom, Heo Sungtae has suffered greatly because of it as he revealed in multiple interviews.
While promoting his drama “Bloody Heart”, Heo Sungtae apologised to his co-star Choi Ri, during the drama’s production presentation.
He shared that he got an anxiety disorder during the filming of “Squid Game” and because of it, the shooting for his first scene with Choi Ri got cancelled.
“Squid Game” wasn’t the best choice for him it seems, as he got to face his fear of heights during the shoot and got so tired he actually threw up many times while filming.
But, he revealed something much more worrisome.
Heo Sungtae had to go through some drastic weight change to play the role of Daeksoo.
He shared that during quarantine, he lost 73kg and then had to gain back 15 to 17kg in only a month and a half, because his then figure was not what the directors had in mind for the character of Daeksoo.
This caused his health to worsen as his calf muscles disappeared and his knees started to hurt; problems which he’s dealing with to this day.
But because of this, he said that he’ll be more cautious in the future and make sure not to take on roles that require such unhealthy changes as this seriously affected his post-Squid Game life.
