From Miss Korea runner-up to a heartbroken ex-wife betrayed by her husband’s family, this is the tragic story of Go Hyun Jung’s marriage.

Go Hyun Jung entered the entertainment industry as a Miss Korea runner-up in 1989.

Considering she came from an ordinary background, this was a huge thing for her.

To this day, she is considered one of the most legendary Miss Korea runner-ups.

She didn’t only make it big in the modeling industry but she also appeared on TV.

Her huge role came in 1995 in the drama Sandglass which is claimed to be one of the highest rated and critically acclaimed pieces in Korean television history.

Overall, 1995 was a huge year for her. Apart from her career being at its peak, she also married a very rich chaebol, Chung Yong Jin.

And what seemed like a happy and loving marriage would soon turn into a nightmare.

Chung Yong Jin was a billionaire businessman, the vice chairman and the former CEO of Shinsegae Group.

He is also the grandson of Lee Byung Chul, Samsung founder. So Hyun Jung got married into a very wealthy and influential family.

The marriage would fall apart in 2003 when they got divorced and Hyun Jung lost custody of their two children.

She was also denied any contact with her children.

Shortly after the divorce, rumors about their marriage and divorce started to float around.

Many people claimed that Hyun Jun was treated horribly by her husband’s family because there was a huge language barrier between them and because Hyun Jung came from an ordinary background.

There were speculations that when Hyun Jung would understand English a little bit, her husband’s family would switch to a different language.

This was later denied by Hyun Jung herself and it remains just a rumor.

Still, Hyun Jung came out of the marriage with empty hands and a career that seemed too far away to get back.

Life decided to throw more obstacles under Hyun Jung’s feet when she was completely banned from any Shinsegae stores.

The Shinsegae Department actually declared a ruling in 2005 stating that neither of the stores were allowed to display any material related to Hyun Jung.

Even when Hyun Jung did a pictorial with Lancome, it was found everywhere except Shinsegae stores.

Things finally started to look up for her in 2009 and Hyun Jung finally started to rebuild her long lost career.

But then in 2018, she took another huge fall…

In February of 2018, Hyun Jung was accused of getting into a verbal argument with a director on set for the drama Return.

Allegedly, Hyun Jung refused to continue with the filming and forced the whole production team to stop.

The producers of the show also shared that this wasn’t the first time it happened and that there were other issues before.

Apparently, the argument was related to issues with character development.

Hyun Jung was also accused of physically attacking the director and the production crew and staff refused to continue filming after they witnessed Hyun Jung hitting him.

As a result, Hyun Jung left the Return drama and just the same day, it was rumored that Hyun Jung was banned from SBS completely.

While it is just a rumor, she hasn’t appeared in any of their shows since 2018 and she’s been staying away from the public eye.
